Halloweenies

Autumn is such a magical time of the year. It washes away the last remnants of

summer with plenty of cold, wet showers and brings along the promise of chilly

winter nights snuggled under blankets with a cup of hot chocolate!

But before we reach the depths of winter, there’s Halloween! As a child growing

up in Belgium, it wasn’t really celebrated, so now I take every opportunity to

carve pumpkins (and make pumpkin pie!) and take my boys trick or treating while

they still love to dress up!

Yarn:

20g Sirdar Snuggly DK yarn per voodoo doll

A small amount of red yarn for the details

Needles:

3.5mm straight needles

Other supplies:

Toy stuffing

Tapestry needle

4 mm toy safety eyes

small buttons

black embroidery thread

Size:

12 cm tall

Abbreviations

[ ] x times: Knit the instructions between the brackets x amount of times.

; rep from to end: Repeat the instructions between the * and ; until the end of the row.

st(s): stitch(es)

K: knit, if followed by a number, knit that amount of stitches

P: purl

St st: stocking stitch: alternate a row of knitting and a row of purling.

G st: garter stitch: knit every row

K2tog: knit two stitches together knitwise.

P2tog: purl two stitches together purlwise.

Kfb: knit in the front and back of the stitch, creating an increase.

Head and Body:

Using your chosen colour, cast on 8 sts

Row 1: [Kfb] 8 times. 16 sts

Row 2 and all even rows: P.

Row 3: [K1, kfb] 8 times. 24 sts

Row 5: [K1, kfb, k1] 8 times. 32 sts

Row 7: [K2, kfb, k1] 8 times. 40 sts

Row 9: [K2, kfb, k2] 8 times. 48 sts

Row 10-20: St st 11 rows.

Row 21: [K2, k2tog, k2] 8 times. 40 sts

Row 23: [K2, k2tog, k1] 8 times. 32 sts

Row 25: [K1, k2tog, k1] 8 times. 24 sts

Row 27: [K1, k2tog] 8 times. 16 sts

Row 29: [K1, kfb] 8 times. 24 sts

Row 31: [K1, kfb, k1] 8 times. 32 sts

Row 33: [K2, kfb, k1] 8 times. 40 sts

Row 34-42: St st 9 rows.

Row 43: [K2, k2tog, k1] 4 times, leaving the rem. 20 sts waiting. 16 sts

Row 45: [K1, k2tog, k1] 4 times. 12 sts

Row 47: [K1, k2tog] 4 times. 8 sts

Break yarn and thread through rem. Sts. Pull tight and fasten. Join yarn to the rem. 20 sts and repeat rows 43-47.

Using mattress sts sew along the side seam of each leg and then along the back of the body and head and stuff.

Secure eyes by adding either buttons or toy safety eyes, embroider some stitches for the smile and body markings or

embroider some love hearts!

Arms: make two

Using your chosen colour, cast on 12 sts

Row 1-6: St st 6 rows

Row 7: [Kfb, k1] 6 times. 18 sts

Row 8-10: St st 3 rows.

Row 11: [K2tog] 9 times. 9 sts

Break yarn and thread through rem. Sts. Pull tight and fasten. Using mattress sts sew along the side seam up to and stuff the lower part of the arm. Attach to either side of the body.
